Trial Reading

[Edited by Chang Jianing, Ming Pao Publishing, Hong Kong]

Biming is an author who never disappoints his editors.

He writes diligently, submits accurate manuscripts, proofreads quickly, and has a burst of creativity. Each of the ten stories has a different theme and arrangement, and each story immerses the reader in a new alternate world that is both mysterious and bizarre.

Bi Ming's works are different from ordinary ghost stories. He emphasizes "truth". When reading his stories, you are not afraid of seeing ghosts, but afraid that the stories in the book will come true!

Human nature is more terrifying than ghosts.

This is Bi Ming's story, conveying the same message—humans are more vicious than ghosts. When a ghost kills, it might strangle you, push you off a height into the street, or throw you onto the tracks, ending the matter once and for all. But when humans kill, they use extreme torture, trickery, and terror, causing the victim to die a torturous and painful death, all because of human malice. Therefore, Bi Ming subtitled it "Utterly Tragic," reminding you of the truth that "bad people never get a good ending."

For example, in the first volume, the book invited Ah-Zhu to draw illustrations. The two collaborated seamlessly and were very adept at drawing the plot of the book, making people's hearts pound. I once tried to edit the manuscript of the pseudonym while looking at Ah-Zhu's illustrations in the middle of the night. Every sentence, every look, and every thought of the characters in the text made you feel like you were there, and your heart kept pounding. You could feel the characters' despair, terror, and the state of dying and lingering after death as if you were experiencing it yourself. This feeling was not easy.

But if you love reading horror novels, then you just like them, right?

Everyone says that Bi Ming will not disappoint.

As mentioned in the previous book, "Terror Tide," this book aims to "frighten and think deeply." Please tell Bi Ming about your frightening experiences or encounters with ghosts (whether they are inner ghosts or real ghosts), and ignite his explosive creativity to bring you even more frightening works.

[Author's Afterword]

Although this newly published work, "Terror Tide II," is a short story in the horror genre, I hope that one day it will transcend the conventional view and no longer be prejudicially labeled as "vulgar ghost stories" or "fictional and lacking substance" before readers even begin to read it. As I stated at the beginning of this article, I am writing a horror novel, but also a work of literature.

The essence of this book's subtitle, "Utterly Tragic," is simply this: in a society rife with materialism and utilitarianism, horrific tragedies unfold every minute, every second, yet we never pay attention, becoming so accustomed to them that we no longer even glance at them. I yearn to use my stories and words to shake people's minds, stimulate their senses, leave an indelible mark, prompt reflection on reality, and prevent such tragedies from repeating themselves. Perhaps one day, people will truly appreciate the essence of horror novels.
